Sarah Tyler
Sarah has amassed considerable experience at SHM as a project manager, facilitator, interviewer and researcher. Since joining SHM in 2005, Sarah’s varied project responsibilities have included: managing a nine-month programme for the LSC, working with a group of young white men from North London schools deemed at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) to explore and build their aspirations; acting as a researcher and interviewer on a project for the Commission for Racial Equality exploring how to promote social interaction between different ethnic groups; and acting as chief facilitator on a project for the BBC exploring parental motivations for involving their children in extracurricular arts activities.
Amongst other current projects, Sarah is programme manager for the National Learner Panel, a Learning and Skills Improvement Service initiative whereby a group of FE students are selected to provide a learner perspective to the Government and its partner organisations on emerging further education policy. Sarah particularly enjoys working one-on-one with clients, project stakeholders and research participants to tease out the issues most present and pertinent for them in relation to a project, and rapidly build trust.
Prior to joining SHM, Sarah worked at Arts Council England and Burberry in Paris. She holds a First class BA (Hons) from the University of Bristol in French and Italian, languages that she speaks fluently. She holds a Masters degree from Goldsmiths College, University of London in Arts Management and Cultural Policy. Whilst studying for her Masters, she worked at Mousetrap Theatre Projects, a charity devising education projects around West End theatre for disadvantaged young people in Greater London. She is currently training as an arts psychotherapist alongside her role at SHM.
