Nigel Shardlow

Nigel Shardlow is an experienced consultant and senior manager with a broad skill base encompassing marketing communications, new product development, strategy and planning, and change management. He started his career as an academic, teaching philosophy at Oxford University and at Birkbeck College in the University of London, but left academia to take part in the first internet revolution, first working for the international design agency Wolff Olins. Following this, he went onto lead the digital media team at the mobile operator Orange, where he received three industry awards for his work on internet communications and online advertising and wrote the first article on the internet for the Times Literary Supplement. Nigel left Orange to join Yell, the directory publisher, where he led the digital platforms team and refreshed and re-launched Yell's online search and advertising service simultaneously in both the UK and the US. After Yell, he re-joined Orange to head up the company's Innovation and New Product Development team, and was responsible for a range of new product launches spanning many different content and service sectors including music, games and m-commerce.

Nigel has brought his wide-ranging, multi-sectorial experience to bear on the projects he has worked on whilst at SHM, and has worked with clients such as Unilever and Diageo to develop powerful analytical tools and processes that yield genuine insight into both the operational and the human aspects of their businesses. He has worked with Apple Computers to develop a channel strategy and communications plan for their EMEA educational market, and with Symbian to embed the company's corporate values into their HR processes.

Nigel holds a first class bachelor's degree in philosophy and a master's degree in cognitive science from the University of Manchester and a doctorate in philosophy from Jesus College, Oxford.
