Kate Peden
Since joining SHM in April 06, Kate has managed a portfolio of public and private sector projects for clients ranging from the LSC, DIUS and NICE to Unilever and Booz Allen Hamilton. She particularly specialises in engagement and action research within the education and voluntary sectors, but has also managed complex, multiple-stakeholder projects within a corporate context.
Kate’s background as a trained teacher and former Head of Education and Outreach department has provided her with a broad range of experience and an understanding of motivations across a wide range of communities and ages. She brings an empathetic but meticulous approach to facilitation and interviewing, and has used these skills to conduct research and engagement programmes with such diverse audiences as College Senior Management Teams, learners in all levels of education, adults with mental health difficulties, asylum seekers/refugees and NEET young people.
Kate is SHM’s Programme Director for the National Learner Panel and the National Student Forum – two innovative initiatives launched by DIUS to ensure that emerging policy is reviewed from the consumer perspective. She is also project manager of the DSA’s recently established Young People’s Forum, co-ordinating and facilitating a programme of engagement activities to encourage young people to participate in forthcoming policy review.
Kate holds a BA (Hons) in English Literature (Queens’ College, Cambridge), a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education with Qualified Teacher Status (Distinction) and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Acting from Mountview Theatre School, London.
