
Celia Newman
Celia joined SHM in 2008 and since then has taken over the role of programme manager for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills’ National Student Forum and has worked on a variety of projects, and for various clients, in both the public and private sectors including the Department of Health, Unilever and BIG Lottery Fund. Celia has been SHM’s primary facilitator for the Department of Transport’s project aimed at reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured on cycles every year in England, and she has the been the lead consultant employed to assist a College of Further Education in the South West improve their offer to local employers for the Learning and Skills Council, South West Region. Celia has quickly earned the trust of her clients and Forum members. Celia is a meticulous organiser with a real eye for detail. She is a talented writer, a strategic thinker, a skilled facilitator and a penetrating interviewer.
Prior to joining SHM, Celia worked as a qualified English teacher, an academic tutor at the University of New South Wales, and as a project manager for a large charity improving the lives of people with learning disabilities. As a result of these experiences, Celia is comfortable communicating with a wide range of people and has had extensive experience at pitching material at a level appropriate to her target audience.
Celia holds a First Class BA from the University of Sydney in English, History and Art History and Theory, and a Masters from the University of Oxford in Oriental Studies (for which she won a full academic scholarship).
